Zigoitia, in the heart of the Gorbeia
Le Centaure 27 · Gorbeia will take place in one of the great natural spaces of the Basque Country.
Gorbeia Natural Park was declared a protected area in 1994 and, with more than 20,000 hectares, is the largest natural park in the Basque Country.
Its landscape combines large woodlands, beech and oak forests, pastureland, rocky terrain, karst landforms, valleys and mountains.
The summit of Gorbeia, at 1,482 metres, is one of the great landmarks of Basque mountaineering and marks the boundary between Álava and Bizkaia.
The Álava side of the Park opens onto Zigoitia, a rural municipality made up of 17 villages closely tied to its forests, paths and mountains. Gopegi, right in the Zigoitia valley, will be one of the main reference points and operational base for Le Centaure 27 · Gorbeia.
A territory particularly well suited to an event like Le Centaure: varied terrain, vast stretches of forest, elevation change, tracks, paths and trails that combine endurance, navigation and technical orienteering.
But Gorbeia will be more than just the backdrop for the event. We want those arriving from other parts of Spain and Europe to also discover a territory worth coming back to: to ride through it, get to know its villages, its landscapes and its culture, and experience the Basque Country from another perspective.
